May, 2020 — The New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services (NHDES) has awarded Absolute Resource Associates (ARA) of Portsmouth Primary Accreditation under the New Hampshire Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program for testing PFAS in Drinking Water by method 537.1. This announcement makes ARA the first and only NH-based laboratory certified to test PFAS in New Hampshire.

ARA will provide Laboratory Analytical Services to identify and quantify PFAS in environmental samples for municipalities, state agencies, industrial clients and homeowners throughout NH, and expects PFAS certification for most surrounding New England states to follow in the coming weeks. According to ARA’s Quality Manager, their Department of Defense (DoD) accreditation for PFAS will be dependent upon decisions surrounding COVID-19 and the availability of an on-site audit.

Per–and Polyfluoroalkyl substances (aka PFAS, PFOA, PFOS, C-8, “Forever Chemicals”) are chemical compounds among a class of emerging contaminants of concern within the environmental community. Experts are studying the widespread impacts of PFAS in the environment, and their potential to cause harm to human health and the environment.
