June 2021 –Absolute Resource Associates of Portsmouth has been awarded Primary Accreditation under the New Hampshire Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program (ELAP) for testing PFAS in drinking water by EPA Method 533.
With this new certification, ARA is now able to offer PFAS analysis for drinking water samples utilizing both EPA Methods 537.1 and 533.
In addition to measuring PFAS in drinking water, ARA also offers PFAS analysis for matrices such as surface and groundwater, utilizing our certified LC-MS/MS (isotope dilution) method.
According to the EPA, method 533 focuses on “short chain” PFAS, and can be viewed as complimentary to method 537.1. Using both methods, a total of 29 unique PFAS compounds can be effectively measured in drinking water.
Per–and Polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are a group of manufactured compounds that have had many commercial applications. PFAS are found in many Aqueous Film Forming Foam (AFFF) products, water and stain resistant fabrics, personal care products, food packaging, and non-stick cookware. The unique chemical characteristics that make PFAS compounds attractive for use also render them resistant to degradation in the environment. Initial studies indicate that PFAS can be found in the bloodstream of most mammals and can be harmful to human health. To learn more about PFAS or request testing, click here.
